The ISTO Test is a multiple-choice test aimed at establishing the level of understanding a candidate possesses in respect of a specific ISO management system standard (e.g. ISO 9001:2015). It focuses not only on understanding the requirements of a standard but is also designed to ensure that those who pass the Test have demonstrated a knowledge of the underlying management system principles, respective definitions and the standard's practical implementation.
We offer the ISTO Test at Level 2 on the following ISO standards: ISO 9001 Quality management systems, ISO 14001 Environmental management systems, ISO 22000 Food safety management systems, ISO/IEC 27001 Information security management systems, ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management systems, ISO 50001 Energy management systems.
There are two levels to the ISTO test. Different levels indicate the depth of understanding of the certificated candidate. Level 1: the fundamental test to show you have an understanding to be a system follower and user of the standard. Level 2: the test offered for professionals, ranging from auditors, consultants and responsible persons.
You may register for a test at the ISTO Test Portal subject to the availability of our Global Partners. The Test will be taken at the locations specified by our Global Partners, with options for time and date.

There are two ways for your organization to organize the Test for your staff: (i) via a Global Partner: you may direct your staff to sign up at portal.isto.ch and take the test at the location of a Global Partner; (ii) become a Corporate Partner and organise Tests at your specified location: see more on the ISTO Partners page.
Currently, ISTO Tests have to be taken in-person at the locations of our Global Partners or at the offices of Corporate Partner. We are working hard to take this completely online with a lock-down browser and human invigilation, and will have this function ready in Q2 of 2026. Sign up for our newsletter for updates.
